Hello, I am Melie! I am a Greek PhD student in engineering, trying to lead a healthy(-ish) life, while still managing to graduate before dying of old age and enjoying the (precious little) free time I have with friends!
In this blog I ramble about my workouts, my fitness regime and my training for long distance races. The main reason I do it is because my friends flat out refused to listen to me talking about mileage and speedwork and half-marathons. Did I mention they also think I am crazy? I wonder why… So, I decided to take it all out to the unsuspected blogosphere…
Please join me as I train for yet another half-marathon, possibly a full marathon and whichever other fitness goal I may pick up on the way.
Expect to see lots about training, running, workouts.
Expect to see about books. Books are my drug of choice, so I read a lot and then want to share my wisdom with innocent passers-by. So expect bits and pieces about fitness, healthy attitudes or whatever grabs my attention while reading the aforementioned books (or just over the internet)…

My bookcase - It's overflowing so now books are located in the kitchen's cabinets, shelves around the desk and on a pile next to my bed (I am reading those currently)...
DON’T expect too many photos and especially good ones because I really suck at this sport and all my efforts end up looking pretty sad. I also do not plan to start carrying a DSLR every time I leave the house because a. these things are expensive, b. they are heavy and c. I already carry my laptop, my workout clothes, my lunch and generally things I consider more important for my survival in the jungle of school…
I also try to keep my personal and blog life separate, because let’s face it electrical engineering and fitness are pretty much as diverse as they make them… But I like to travel and go out with friends and do things I consider interesting. So, don’t tell me I didn’t warn you if these things creep into the blog from time to time..
So, welcome to G(r)eekMelie! Join me if you please in my effort to live my g(r)eeky life as best as I can! I will sure appreciate the company!

I love how you say books are your drug of choice! I am the same way, I have to read every day and carry my book everywhere!
hey great photos.. i too love running and reading
it a great combination that I feel gives me peace of mind
thanks
you are seriously the first person to say that my photos are even bearable! thanks for the kind words!
I hope you stop by more often in future!
PhD in Electrical Engineering?!?! Eeeeek!!!
Lol! I get that response a lot!
Hey, just found your blog and will def. be reading more! I am not at all Greek but for whatever reason I’ve always wanted to be….maybe its the food? Haha! Looking forward to learning more about the culture. Hope you post lots of recipes : )
Hello! I am so glad you found my blog. I am always happy to find new blogs and people!
Well, food is a pretty good reason to like Greece. I’ll do my best to give you recipes and Greek tidbits!
Came across your blog and can totally relate to some of your plight. I too have friends that do not want to hear about my on-going fitness gibberish… and two, I will also have somewhat bad photos on my blog (not saying your ours, but that is what I am proclaiming about mine, lol)… hopefully they won’t be too bad and scare people away… those freakin cameras are expensive! Look forward to reading more.
I am the same with my running! I love talking about it but only my few running friends are willing to listen. Non-runners just don’t understand my affinity for long runs, fueling, and foam rollers! Can’t wait to keep reading your blog!
That’s one of the advantages of blogging. You can always ramble about these things. Worst case, nobody ever reads the posts
